Bush: “Our long nightmare of peace and prosperity is finally over.”

July 25th, 2008

The Onion hits the nail on the head:

“My fellow Americans,” Bush said, “at long last, we have reached the end of the dark period in American history that will come to be known as the Clinton Era, eight long years characterized by unprecedented economic expansion, a sharp decrease in crime, and sustained peace overseas. The time has come to put all of that behind us.”

“Finally, the horrific misrule of the Democrats has been brought to a close,” House Majority Leader Dennis Hastert (R-IL) told reporters. “Under Bush, we can all look forward to military aggression, deregulation of dangerous, greedy industries, and the defunding of vital domestic social-service programs upon which millions depend. Mercifully, we can now say goodbye to the awful nightmare that was Clinton’s America.”

“After eight years of relatively sane fiscal policy under the Democrats, we have reached a point where, just a few weeks ago, President Clinton said that the national debt could be paid off by as early as 2012,” Rahway, NJ, machinist and father of three Bud Crandall said. “That’s not the kind of world I want my children to grow up in.”

“We as a people must stand united, banding together to tear this nation in two,” Bush said. “Much work lies ahead of us: The gap between the rich and the poor may be wide, be there’s much more widening left to do. We must squander our nation’s hard-won budget surplus on tax breaks for the wealthiest 15 percent. And, on the foreign front, we must find an enemy and defeat it.”

“T-shirt” not “tee shirt”

July 15th, 2008

Most people wear a T-shirt. This is a shirt shaped like the letter “T.” I don’t think very many people wear shirts with pictures of golf tees. Those would be tee shirts.

Cheney hid effects of climate change

July 9th, 2008

Here’s a shocker:the man who lied to drag the United States into two wars that are destroying our economy also ordered the EPA to lie about the effects of climate change on your health

Seeking to play down the effects of global warming, Vice President Dick Cheney’s office pushed to delete from congressional testimony references about the consequences of climate change on public health ….

This man is a complete sociopath. His only concern is lining his own pockets and those of his friends with your money. I’ve got nothing else to say about this reprehensible person. It’s fitting that the worst president in history also has the worst vice-president. It’s truly a shame that Pelosi refuses to impeach either one simply because she wants those same evil powers for the Democratic party if they ever have the Presidency again.

Bush buys porn for America

July 6th, 2008

In a blatant attempt to buy votes for the Republican party, President Bush spent $168 billion of the tax dollars of American citizens, much of which was given to the porno industry.

[M]any websites focused on adult or erotic material have experienced an upswing in sales in the recent weeks since checks have appeared in millions of Americans’ mailboxes ….

Many of the sites we surveyed have reported 20-30% growth in membership rates since mid-May when the checks were first sent out ….

Obama switches sides on telecom immunity–of course

July 2nd, 2008

I had no idea America was so naive. I just read about Obama’s supporters being upset that he changed his mind on the bill that will give the telecommunications companies immunity for illegally wiretapping tens of thousands of Americans.

They are calling on Mr. Obama to reverse his decision to endorse legislation supported by President Bush to expand the government’s domestic spying powers while also providing legal protection to the telecommunication companies that worked with the National Security Agency’s domestic wiretapping program ….

Is that really a surprise? He’s a p-o-l-i-t-i-c-i-a-n. That means his job is–sing it with me if you know the words–to get elected. Oh, did you think the lyrics were “to represent his constituents?” That’s so cute.

Fox News: Liars and Racists

July 2nd, 2008

Fox News, never known for its “fair and balanced” reporting, is by far the most prejudiced media outlet. (It’s certainly not a “news agency.”) Their blatant “anti-Obama rhetoric, which also includes smears and misinformation about Obama’s outspoken wife, Michelle,” is ugly and poisonous. Fox’s employees unashamedly expose their racist beliefs by spreading lies about Barack Obama, the first U.S. black presidential nominee. On the other hand, John McCain, the white, 72-year-old Republican nominee, receives a free pass to indulge in illegal activities.

Fox News personalities have uniformly declined to inform viewers of Republican challenger John McCain’s problems with the public financing system ….

When McCain’s campaign was floundering in the primary election season, the Republican candidate is accused of having secured public taxpayer funds to keep the campaign on life support. To secure the public funding, McCain had allegedly signed a binding agreement with the Federal Elections Commission that obligated him to accept spending limits and agree to other conditions for accepting the funds.

McCain has since withdrawn from the public finance system, a move that apparently has legal repercussions. There are other allegations of improprieties on McCain’s part that, if demonstrated to be true, would leave his campaign in legal trouble. None of this gets reported on Fox News, however.

Obama wants a religious U.S. government

July 1st, 2008

Bush hasn’t even left office but we can already look forward to a continuation of his efforts to invalidate the Establishment Clause.

Reaching out to evangelical voters, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is announcing plans to expand President Bush’s program steering federal social service dollars to religious groups ….

The founders were crystal clear on their intent to create a government that ruled without religious fervor. If people want to be superstitious, fine. If you want to be afraid of the number 13, throw salt over your shoulder, or believe in the Tooth Fairy, go ahead–but don’t try to force me to join you. The founders, countless others, and I escaped the shackles of superstition. We don’t want a government that consults with fortune tellers or astrologists or priests. We want a government that believes in science, skepticism, and ratiocination.

Looking beyond this single issue, it means that Obama agrees with Bush’s strategy to conduct extra-legal activities through executive orders and signing statements. It’s nice to dream that our next president would pull the executive branch (yes, this includes you, Cheney) back in line with the Constitution (something our Congress and Supreme Court haven’t been able or willing to do). However, politics being what it is, you can almost hear McCain, Obama, and–until recently–Hillary slavering at the chance to increase the executive’s already near-dictatorial powers.

I hope Canada doesn’t mind a few more immigrants from the United States.

Bush: I can’t hear you I can’t hear you Nyah nyah nyah

June 26th, 2008

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that George W. refused to open the EPA’s e-mail response to “a 2007 Supreme Court ruling that required it to determine whether greenhouse gases represent a danger to health or the environment ….”

Instead the White House pressured the EPA to change their scientific findings.

[T]he White House successfully put pressure on the E.P.A. to eliminate large sections of the original analysis that supported regulation, including a finding that tough regulation of motor vehicle emissions could produce $500 billion to $2 trillion in economic benefits over the next 32 years.

On schedule: Bush looking at war with Iran

June 12th, 2008

Possible reasons to attack Iran: The world doesn’t hate us enough. We want to hemorrhage money faster. More soldiers must die. Bush plans to start another war, invoke martial law, and stay in office. All of the above.

I’m glad the Democratic Congress finally managed to pass a bill, especially one as important as a repeal of the suspicious changes Bush made to the Military Commissions Act in 2006 and Posse Comitatus and Insurrection Acts in 2007.

Republicans shock by protecting Big Oil’s $36B profits

June 11th, 2008

I know I haven’t written lately, but it’s not because of a dearth of material. As Bush’s shameful tenure comes to a close, he continues to do what he can to kill Americans, endanger others, stuff his wallets and those of his friends, and destroy the planet. It seems so repetitive. Sigh.

Gas prices over $5/gallonRecently, the senate Republicans shocked America by refusing to tax oil companies’ record windfall profits of $36 billion dollars in just the first three months of 2008. The companies used their typical (and hilarious) argument that they don’t control prices, they’re “forced” to charge this much. What kidders. They really do think we’re stupid.

And why shouldn’t they. We elected these spineless Democrats who continue to fund wars while professing to object to them. They think we’re stupid too. Everyone knows the wars will stop if we stop paying for them.

Sorry, got off topic there.
